As the name would suggest, Splitgate has a large focus on creating gateways that split, or as normal people call them, portals. Placing your portals in strategic locations is at the center of the game’s gameplay loop, and knowing all the tools that are available to you when it comes to them is important if you want to get those wins. One piece of tech that you might find yourself needing to learn is how to close portals. This guide will show you how to close your portals in Splitgate.

How to Close Portals in Splitgate

To close your portals in Splitgate is fairly easy. Two different colored portals can be shot. They are orange and purple and both need to be sent out to be able to walk through them. If you are using default bindings, you can shoot the purple portal by pressing Q and the orange portal with E on PC or use the LB and RB/R1 and R2 on a controller. Just as you shoot out each portal, you can recall each portal as well. Pressing Z or the left D-Pad will recall your orange portal while X and the right D-Pad will close your purple portal. This can be done at any time that one of these portals is in play.

While this is useful, you can always close a portal by simply shooting that colored portal to a new position, instantly creating a new link. For example, if you want to close your orange portal, you can shoot a new orange and instantly get rid of the old portal to open the new one. This strategy is effective to jump from one portal location to a new one quickly. Closing the portal manually is still a smart option, however. If you don’t have a new location in mind or readily available, losing a portal will ensure that an enemy won’t shoot or walk through while you are searching for a new location.

Splitgate is currently in beta and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
