In the infamous words of everyone’s favorite anthropomorphized racing car – Lighting McQueen – “I am speed”. At least you’ll hope you are when it comes to taking on the races in Splitgate. The Helix race in Splitgate, in particular, is quite the challenge. Even the very best in the world have yet to shave their times into the sub-30 second range (which sets it apart from every other race, besides Olympus).

The Splitgate races are a great opportunity to build your parkour skills, become comfortable with your portals, and get some bragging rights to hang over your friends’ heads. While there are no rewards or perks for beating others in races as of yet, there is currently a weekly challenge attached to the Helix race that will give you quite a lot of XP. Here’s how to do the Helix Race in Splitgate.

How to Access the Helix Race (as well as All Races)

Before we get to the checkered flags and fanfare, you’ll have to access the races. Interestingly, the races in Splitgate are located under the Training tab of the main menu. Once you have navigated to the tab you can select Race and you will be given a variety of maps to choose from. Since this guide is for Helix you will want to navigate to that selection, but there are a total of 13 different locations to check out.

Tips to Up Your Racing Prowess

In order to complete the Helix race, you simply need to touch all of the floating, glowing disco balls that will spawn across the map. There will be a total of 31 of them on this map. You can take as long or as short as you would like to complete the weekly challenge. However, if you would like some more tips on lowering your time, keep reading.

One major thing to keep in mind when going for speed is to keep an eye out for spaces where you can place portals. Using portals will always be significantly faster than hoofing it from disco ball to disco ball and you will see a significant amount of time shaved off if you use them to your advantage. It is also vital that you remember which portal is placed where so you don’t end up fumbling your movements.

In conjunction with that, use portals to give yourself some momentum! The record-breakers out there barely even use their feet to complete these races, so find creative ways of launching yourself from point to point for maximum time saved. Finally, make sure to use your jetpack as sparingly as possible by quickly tapping the button for it in order to get the most use out of it.

You are also able to fire portals while standing inside one, which is tricky to execute but can save you even more seconds. You can check out the videos of YouTuber (and current world record holder) Toby Repellant for more of an idea on how to do this. It’s not necessary for the Helix race, but you can check out his general technique and try and emulate it. Have fun racing!

Splitgate is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC via Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
