Oculus has presented a new VR headset today during its Oculus Connect presentation. What is interesting about the new device is that it is not expanding the mobile or high-end product lines of the company. Instead ‘Oculus Go’ represents a middle point between the Gear VR and the Oculus Rift, serving as a standalone device that doesn’t require a smartphone, but without the technical specifications that would cause its price to reach the level of other high-end headsets.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg presented it as “the most accessible VR headset yet,” confirming that it will arrive to stores in 2018 at a price of $199. With this idea in mind, the Oculus Go has been designed to feel light and comfortable, it uses a 2560×1440 LCD screen with next generation VR lenses and spatial audio.

While it is compatible with all Gear VR titles, the headset will lack of inside-out tracking or motion controllers, instead using a system similar to the version for smartphones, which in turn will allow developers to easily make their titles work with it. Other specifications like battery life will be detailed in the future, although developers will start getting kits this November.

Oculus Go will launch early 2018 for $199. For more information, visit the official website.
