You may remember us talking about Star Citizen‘s $250,000,000 funding milestone a little while ago. It was a huge achievement as far as funding goes, making it a game with one of the highest budgets, especially as an indie. This time though, we have news for players of the game. Announced just today, Star Citizen‘s Alpha 3.8 is now available for download. This update brings a ton of new content, specifically making the game feel a lot more polished than prior.

Alpha 3.8 is known as New Frontiers, aptly named for the new planet identities. The planets and moons have been given a facelift, thanks to the technology of Planet Tech V4. There will now be less repetition and more diversity in the places you can explore. This should give a lot more depth to the game, along with more content to explore and learn about. It’s not just updated planets, though, as an entirely new planet has been created. This planet is known as Microtech and is a frozen world created through a terraforming accident. You can find out more about that through the planet’s lore, but that permanent winter has created environmental changes. Among these is snowstorms, blurring the vision of travelers. All this new tech will allow the development team to add more planets and moons, along with bringing more content to each world.

Along with the bulk of these features, there will now be melee combat, new weapons, space ship interiors, multi-crew mining, and more. You can find the full details regarding Alpha 3.8 through the official patch notes. Lots to look forward to through Star Citizen‘s newest update. For those unaware of Star Citizen, this is a multiplayer trading a combat space game by Robert Space Industries. You venture around the far reaches of space, exploring planets, and gathering valuable resources for missions. You’re not the only one though and must combat opponents if you are to succeed. The game has a massive following in places like Reddit and their official forums. The game is currently only available for PC, and will likely remain that way for the foreseeable future. If you want to purchase it, you can get on the game’s website.
