One of the biggest surprises at The Game Awards was the announcement trailer for Star Trek: Resurgence, the new game from a group of ex-Telltale developers turned studio, Dramatic Labs. Check out the trailer for the game below.

Telltale Games filed for bankruptcy protection in 2018 which forced the company to close the majority of its studios. The company had to let go of 90% of its workforce and was completely liquidated within a few months. As a critically acclaimed studio, the sudden closure was a massive shock to fans and employees alike. Although the company’s name and assets were purchased, the core of the company, including the employees, had already moved on by that point.

Enter, Dramatic Labs. Dramatic Labs is made up of 20+ former Telltale employees and, until the announcement at The Game Awards, was essentially operating in secret. Until the trailer for Star Trek: Resurgence dropped, very few people seemed to know that the studio even existed.

Dramatic Labs says that Star Trek: Resurgence builds off the experience that the developers at the studio have from making Telltale games. When describing Star Trek: Resurgence the studio says it “will be familiar to fans of Telltale’s unique style of gameplay, but it also brings some welcome additions and refinements from Dramatic Labs.”

Naturally, the most interesting part of the Star Trek: Resurgence announcement is how it came about and from where. However, the trailer itself is sure to excite any fans of the Star Trek series along with, presumably, any fans of Telltale games before the collapse. The game looks to feature multiple story paths, as expected, along with classic characters from the franchise.

Star Trek: Resurgence is scheduled to come out in Spring 2022. The game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. At this time, the PC version is only mentioned as coming to the Epic Games Store.
