Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens may not have been nominated in the bigger categories, but the blockbuster still managed get noticed by the Academy Awards in five areas.
The 88th Academy Awards nominees were named yesterday and Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens was noticed for five categories. Most of them for technical achievements.
As reported by StarWars.com, the movie got nominated for: Film Editing – Maryann Brandon and Mary Jo Markey, Original Score – John Williams, Visual Effects – Roger Guyett, Patrick Tubach, Neal Scanlan, and Chris Corbould, Sound Editing – Matthew Wood and David Acord , Sound Mixing – Andy Nelson, Christopher Scarabosio, and Stuart Wilson
Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens has the second highest number of Oscar nominations for a Star Wars film. It is only exceeded by the A New Hope which garnered 10 nominations back in the ’70s.
In terms of blockbusters in 2015, Mad Max: Fury Road led the way with 10 nominations. The Martian was also a standout in terms of bigger blockbusters getting noticed.
As always, most of the other big blockbusters were snubbed at the 88th Academy Awards. The likes of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Furious 7 and Jurassic World got zero nominations. This year was also criticized for the lack of ethnic minorities nominated as well.
