Star Wars is almost back, as crazy as that may be to believe, but we are just at half a year until the release of the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There are over 30 years between the release of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens and the upcoming novel Star Wars: Aftermath appears to give us some details about the early part of that period.
Coming this September from Chuck Wendig, Star Wars: Aftermath will explore the time directly after Return of the Jedi. While the ending to that movie painted a picture of the Rebels being victorious and the Empire being taken down, that is far from the case.
This novel shows that the events of Return of the Jedi that saw the demise of Darth Vader and the Emperor was only one victory, with the Empire itself not crumbling all at once.
An employee at the publisher accidentally posted an excerpt from the book, which featured famed X-Wing pilot Wedge Antilles, who is out looking for potential Imperial activity.
Entertainment Weekly has now provided us with much more however, with the opening portion of the book. Within this introduction, Admiral Ackbar gives a victory speech, before moving to a short recreation of a scene that was added in the Special Edition of Return of the Jedi, where the Emperor’s statue is taken down on Coruscant. The book picks up from here, where Imperial officers try to control this crowd and it gets very ugly quickly.
