Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released in December 2019, and still people are talking about it to this day. It says a lot about the controversial nature of the movie that it would continue to invite such a discussion. But there’s one other movie on people’s minds, too – the thing is, it was never released.
But thanks to keen fan animator Mr. Sunday Movies on YouTube, we can get a glimpse at what said movie might’ve looked like. The movie in question is Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars: Duel of the Fates, the work-in-progress ninth Skywalker saga film had Rise of Skywalker not gone forward.

Before J.J. Abrams joined the project in 2017, Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) was tapped to write and direct the ninth episode of the Star Wars movie saga. Unfortunately, his script failed to be satisfactory for the executives at Disney despite multiple rewrites, and his working relationship with Kathleen Kennedy became unmanageable.
Shortly after Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker hit the silver screen, the script titled Star Wars: Duel of the Fates, was leaked online. It wasn’t long before fans delightfully consumed the mysterious document, being left to wonder whether it was really Trevorrow’s Episode IX. The director then confirmed it was real; shortly after, the leak happened.
The script contains a number of changes from the theatrically-released version we saw. This goes from Rey’s attire to Luke’s ghost playing a huge role in her training to Rey being blinded by Kylo in the final act. Depending on who you ask, the premise of the film is either just as bad or better than the final product.
