According to BuzzFeed News, a Star Wars movie based off of Knights of the Old Republic is in the works. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a 2003 game for Bioware that took place thousands of years before the original Star Wars trilogy. Three sources have told BuzzFeed that a script is being written by Shutter Island’s Laeta Kalogridis and that this could potentially be a new trilogy of films for the franchise.

Just last month, there was a rumor going around that Lucasfilm was planning to develop something Knights of the Old Republic related. That’s because of this quote from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy during an interview with MTV at Star Wars Celebration:

#Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy talked to us about the future of #StarWars – including a Knights of the Old Republic movie and female filmmakers taking the helm, as well as Palpatine’s surprise return in the trailer for @StarWars #EpisodeIX pic.twitter.com/HCjEhdlRv7

You can’t help but think that this is the project David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will take on. After watching how the final season of Game of Thrones turned out, some fans may be very skeptical about their ability to pull a project of this magnitude off. But, this is an era for Star Wars that would be a great playground for these two to put together something new and exciting for a franchise that may need something fresh after Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker releases in December.

Of course, this is still considered to be all rumors as nobody at Lucasfilm or Disney have confirmed this report from BuzzFeed yet.
