At the Star Wars San Diego Comic-Con panel, Lucasfilm creative director of publishing, Michael Siglain, had an exciting announcement for fans. Along with a creative team that consisted of Katie Cookie, Rebecca Roanhorse, and Charles Soule, it was revealed that a four-issue miniseries from Marvel Comics would come out this December 2019. It would be titled “The Rise of Kylo Ren”. Soule stated at the panel:

They kept any details regarding the series quiet. That is to be expected, since the final episode of the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, is also coming to theaters this December. It will finish up the plot of the Skywalker family, of which Kylo Ren – aka Ben Solo – is a member of. Perhaps this new miniseries will delve more in-depth to what happens to him in Episode IX? Or will it be spoiler-free and they are timing the release with the new movie to drive interest?

Two interesting art pieces were featured along with this announcement. The first is the titular logo for the comic miniseries.

The second is some interesting monochromatic art with Kylo Ren at the forefront. It’s unclear who the others are to either side of him.

Kylo Ren is played by Adam Driver in the movies, and he’s made a large impact on fans. The son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, he is also the grandson of Anakin Skywalker and can’t seem to fully break free of Darth Vader’s legacy and influence. In Star Wars: The Last Jedi it is revealed he was trained under Luke Skywalker but left when Luke sensed the Dark Side’s influence in him.

Star Wars has had a long history of working with Marvel Comics to promote their movies and expand upon their stories. All of these endeavors have been well-received by fans and continue to build upon a deep and rich universe.
