One of the most important parts of Stardew Valley is marriage — finding the perfect soulmate candidate for your farmer and proving your love to them. There are six male candidates for romancing and six female, but you can only marry one of them. You can, of course, get divorced, but if you’re looking to find the one, here’s a full list and some of the things to know about each.

All About Marriage

In order to actually get married in Stardew Valley, you’ll need to meet some criteria. First, you’ll need to make sure your beloved is actually a dateable NPC. If their name says “(single)” in the social tab of your pause menu, they’re a marriage candidate.

Next, you’ll want to reach an eight-heart friendship level with them. This can be done a few ways, but primarily by talking to them, doing favors, and giving gifts. At this point, you can buy a bouquet from Pierre’s store and give it to them, which will enter the two of you into a romantic relationship.

This will unlock the last two hearts in your friendship level. After you reach ten hearts, you’ll be able to buy a Mermaid’s Pendant. The only place to buy this important item is on the east side of the beach (you’ll need to repair the broken bridge) during rainy weather. When it rains, the Old Mariner shows up here and sells the Mermaid’s Pendant for 5,000g. Give that pendant to your partner, and they’ll agree to marry you in three days.

After the wedding, your spouse moves into your farmhouse and attaches their own unique room on the right-hand side, as well as a small area behind the farmhouse where they’ll occasionally hang out on certain days.

After marriage, your spouse’s friendship meter will max out at fourteen hearts. If you keep them happy, they’ll complete chores around the farm and occasionally give you gifts. At 12.5 hearts, they’ll give you a Stardrop as well. Eventually, if you’ve upgraded the farmhouse, your spouse might suggest having or adopting children.

Stardew Valley’s Bachelors

There are six male marriage candidates in Stardew Valley. You can find them below.

Alex is a bit of a jock, although he does have a hidden softer side that comes out as you get to know him. He lives with his grandparents, Evelyn and George. His favorite gifts are the Salmon Dinner and the Complete Breakfast. If you marry him, his indoor room will feature some sports equipment and a bench-press. His outdoor space will also have weights, and on certain days he’ll head there to exercise. Alex’s birthday is Summer 13.

If you’re more interested in the intellectual type, you may like Elliott. This reclusive writer lives in a small cabin on the beach. If you marry him, he’ll add a room with a large bookcase that resembles his cabin. His outdoor area will be a small garden. Elliott’s favorite gifts include lobster, pomegranates, squid ink, Tom Kha soup, duck feathers, and crab cakes. His birthday is Fall 5.

Always dreamed of marrying a rich doctor? Harvey might be the man for you. The resident doctor of Pelican Town, Harvey is typically found inside the medical clinic. His favorite gifts are pickles, coffee, truffle oil, wine, and the Super Meal. Like Elliott, he also has a small garden outside if you marry him. Harvey will add a small room with his hobby equipment, including his radio, to the farmhouse. This marriage candidate celebrates his birthday on Winter 14.

Sam has a bit of a cooler vibe than some of the other bachelors, coming across a bit younger and being interested in skateboarding, playing guitar, and video games. He lives with his parents, Kent and Jodi, and his younger brother, Vincent. He loves cactus fruit, maple bars, pizza, and Tigerseye. After marriage, he’ll add his keyboard, bookcase, and computer in a room onto the farmhouse, and a half-pipe for skateboarding outside. His birthday is Summer 17.

If you like edgy, moody guys, Sebastian might be your true love. This brooding young man lives with his family, Robin, Demetrius, and Maru up on the mountain. He loves Frozen Tears, obsidian, pumpkin soup, sashimi, and void eggs. If you marry him, he adds his room, which has his computer, a table with cushions, and a nice black couch. Outside, he’ll have a motorcycle that he sometimes works on. He celebrates his birthday on Winter 10.

Last but not least is Shane, a man who struggles with depression and alcoholism but eventually warms up to you and gets clean as your friendship develops. He lives with his aunt Marnie and goddaughter Jas just south of your farm and works at JojaMart if it’s open. The room he adds to your farmhouse has a TV, video game console, and unfortunately, is a bit of a mess. Out back, he’ll have a coop with his chicken, Charlie. Shane loves beer, hot peppers, pizza, and pepper poppers, and celebrates his birthday on Spring 20.

Stardew Valley’s Bachelorettes

Onto the ladies! There are six female marriage candidates in Stardew Valley, similar to their male counterparts.

Abigail is a purple-haired young woman who is a bit of a lovable weirdo. She’s into the occult and playing her flute. Abigail loves amethyst, banana pudding, blackberry cobbler, chocolate cake, pufferfish, pumpkins, and spicy eel. If you marry her, she adds her room with a hamster cage, TV, bookshelf, and drumkit to the farmhouse. Out back, she’ll have a small garden where she plays her flute. Her birthday is on Fall 13.

With a love of tailoring, birds, and working at the saloon, Emily is a cool chick. She lives with her sister Haley, who is also a marriage candidate. If you marry Emily, she’ll add her tropical room to your farmhouse, complete with her sewing table. Outside, she’ll have a crystal garden where she sometimes meditates. Her favorite gifts include wool, cloth, some gems, and the Survival Burger. Her birthday is on Spring 27.

Emily’s sister, Haley, can also be romanced, though the two of them are very different. Haley is more into makeup, beauty, and photography. Haley’s favorite gifts are coconuts, pink cake, sunflowers, and fruit salad. If you marry her, she’ll add her room to your farmhouse, with a makeup vanity and tropical theme. She’ll set up a small garden behind the house where she’ll sometimes go to practice some photography. Haley’s birthday is on Spring 14.

For someone with a more artsy vibe, consider getting to know Leah, who lives in a small cabin in the forest south of your farm. She’s into a more cottagecore lifestyle, foraging, sculpting, and connecting with nature. Her favorite gifts include truffles, salad, stir fry, goat cheese, poppyseed muffins, vegetable medley dishes, and wine. Leah’s room in your farmhouse has a nice red rug, a large plant, and some space for her to work on her art. Her outdoor space will have the wood sculpture that she is working on. Leah’s birthday is celebrated on Winter 23.

Into brainy ladies? Maru might be for you. The half-sister of Sebastian, Maru also lives with her parents, Robin and Demetrius in Stardew Valley. She’s into robotics, science, and working at the clinic with Harvey. Her favorite gifts include battery packs, gold, iridium, radioactive bars, rhubarb pie, pepper poppers, cauliflower, cheese cauliflower, the Miner’s Treat, strawberries, and diamonds. The room she adds to the farmhouse if you marry her is filled with gadgets, science equipment, and a telescope. Out back, she’ll work on a gadget occasionally. You can celebrate Maru’s birthday on Summer 10.

The final bachelorette is the quiet and shy Penny. She lives with her mom Pam in the center of town. She often works as a tutor for the local children or can be found reading around town. Penny loves diamonds, emeralds, melons, poppies, Tom Kha soup, sandfish, poppyseed muffins, the Roots Platter, and the Red Plate. Her spouse’s room features a few bookcases and a table. In the back, she’ll have a small garden where she occasionally goes to read. Her birthday is on Fall 2.
