For some, growing a farm in Stardew Valley is reward enough.  And why shouldn’t it? The day to day rhythm of tending to crops and animals keeps even the most experienced player occupied. But for those looking to experience all aspects of Stardew Valley, they might set their eyes on raising some kids of their own.

That’s right. You have the chance to grow families of your own with a villager of their choice. The game won’t just outright tell you how to do this, however. So, here’s all you need to know to start your own family on the farm.

How to Have Kids

To have children, you are first going to have to wed a villager of their choice. It does not matter if the player has a wife or a husband as they will be able to have biological or adopted children. So, be sure to pick the villager that you’ve bonded to the most.

Then, you should go to Robin and get the second house upgrade. This will add the nursery and an extra room. It is a bit pricey, so be sure to have 50,000 gold and 150 hardwood stocked up. But after that, if the spouse is at twelve hearts, every night when players go to bed, there is a chance that they will be asked by their spouse if they want to have a child. You will have the option of saying ‘yes’ or ‘not now’. Saying yes will lead to you or your partner getting pregnant, or your spouse filing adoption papers. After 14 days, an infant shall arrive in the nursery, and you will have your chance to name your new bundle of joy.

After every 14 days, the child will go through a new growth cycle. First, they will be seen sleeping in their cribs, and then, they will stand up in their cribs. This will continue until they reach the toddler stage and they can walk on their own. They won’t grow past this stage, however, so don’t plan on dealing with teenagers. The maximum number of children you can have is two. One boy and one girl. The second kid will be of the opposite gender of the first child. So, while you won’t be able to amass a hoard of children, you will be able to have a perfect family of four.
