There’s a whole new area in farming simulator Stardew Valley with the 1.5 update and its main currency is valuable Golden Walnuts. These strange collectibles are pretty hard to find sometimes, with 130 of them to collect in total. They’re used to unlock new areas, purchase services, and more. If you’re looking to take advantage of everything Ginger Island has to offer, you’ll need to collect a good number of these Walnuts. Here’s where you can find all of them.
Ginger Island South
The southern portion of Ginger Island is the area you first arrive in after departing from Stardew Valley. It contains the dock where Willy drops you off, the beach resort (once opened), the mermaid beach, and the pirate cove (again, once unlocked). From here, you can head north to the northern portion and east to the grove where Leo lives, which makes up the eastern portion. Once you move the turtle, you can also head left from here to the western portion of the island.
There are twelve Golden Walnuts to find here.
Head up through the entrance to Island North, take a sharp right turn right away, and walk through a walkway hidden under the tree here. You’ll come out on the upper cliff of Island South, where there will be a Golden Walnut.
After opening the beach resort, you’ll be able to go through the southeast exit of the main resort section into the mermaid beach. Fish in the starfish-shaped tide pool here to find a Walnut.
There is a small diamond shape made from yellow starfish here, as well. If you dig in the center of it, you’ll find a Walnut.
On an even-numbered day with no rain, head to the small path made of boards leading through a hidden entrance into the pirate cove. After 8 PM, some pirates will hang out here. Win a game of darts to earn a Golden Walnut. This can be repeated twice more, for a total of three Walnuts.
Inside the pirate cove, there’s a bit of water. You can see a bit of exposed dirt amongst the barrels and boards on the right-hand side. Dig there for a Walnut.
On a rainy day, head to the mermaid beach (note: Ginger Island’s weather forecast is separate from the mainland of Stardew Valley). The mermaid herself will appear on the rock in the water. You’ll see a row of five small stone patches. Place a Flute Block under each one and tune them based on the number of stones. A large stone signifies five clicks and a small stone signifies one click. Once you’ve tuned them, run along them from left to right and the mermaid will start to sing, then grant you five Golden Walnuts. (Solution: 2 clicks, 11 clicks, 5 clicks, 9 clicks, 7 clicks.)
Ginger Island North
The northern portion of Ginger Island contains the entire area through the northern entrance off the first beach section you arrive in. Here, you’ll find the island trader (once opened), the volcano, and the dig site. There are 49 Golden Walnuts to be found here.
In the volcano dungeon, you can find a whopping 17 Walnuts by various means. They’ll appear randomly while opening chests, mining, and killing monsters. You’ll need to make sure to keep a mental (or written) note to remember how many you’ve found. Stardew Valley doesn’t tell you how many you’ve found here, so you’ll have to remember yourself.
There are a total of 13 Walnuts to be found via the island field office. You’ll get one for each of the two surveys you complete on the backboard inside the tent. Donating the right fossils will also net you some Walnuts: six for completing the Large Animal, three for completing the Snake, and one each for the Mummified Frog and Mummified Bat. You’ll need to rescue Professor Snail at the dig site before you can get these Walnuts.
Make it to the end of the volcano dungeon, where you’ll find the forge. By the entrance and exit, there are two bushes with a Walnut each.
Near the entrance of the volcano, where you have to use your watering can to create a bridge across the lava, keep extending that bridge to the left. Eventually, you’ll reach an exit to an area with two Walnut bushes.
At the top of the dig site, you’ll notice a ramp. Follow it up and then turn right and walk through a hidden entrance in the cliff, across the bridge, and over to two Walnut bushes.
Up the same ramp, turn left, and go across the bridge to find a Walnut.
Once again up this ramp, there is a small circle of stones. Use your hoe on the center of it to receive a single Walnut.
There are a few other places around the northern section of Ginger Island where you can dig for a Walnut. A sharp left inside the entrance from Island South, you’ll find a circle of stones. Right from here, there’s a grassy knoll with a circle of flowers. Nearby, there’s another grassy area with a circular dirt patch with a circle of stones. Just to the right of the island field office, there’s a hardly-noticeable bit of sand with a strange texture. East of the volcano’s entrance, there’s a circle of stones around two plants. At the top left with the cliff overlooking the ocean, there’s a circle of pebbles. Dig in all these locations for a Walnut each.

There are a few hidden paths leading to a Walnut, too. Turn left from the southern entrance to find a path through the grove to a bush. Up and to the left of the volcano entrance, there’s a hidden path through the trees. These two places both have one each.
Just southeast of the volcano entrance, there’s a Walnut bush hidden behind a palm tree.
After finding Journal Scrap #10, you can dig behind a curved palm tree near the volcano entrance for a Walnut.
At the top right section of Island North, behind the parrot transportation cart, there’s a curved palm tree sticking out of the volcano. Hit it with a slingshot to knock a Walnut down.
Ginger Island West
The western portion of Ginger Island is accessed through the left-hand entrance from the beach. It contains the island farm, Birdie, and her hut, the shipwreck, Qi’s room, the Tiger Slime grove, and the Gourmand Frog’s cave. There are 52 Golden Walnuts to find here.
The Gourmand Frog is found in a cave by the farmhouse. He’ll ask you to grow certain crops. They are Melon, Wheat, and Garlic, in that order. Once they’ve grown, be sure not to harvest them until you speak with him. He’ll give you five Walnuts for each, for a total of 15.
Speak with Birdie and she’ll give you the Pirate’s Wife Quest. Once completed, you’ll receive five Walnuts from her.
There’s a puzzle with some crystals in a cave north of the Tiger Slime grove. Do it successfully, and you’ll receive three Walnuts.
The Mussel-filled rocks south of your farm can be broken with a pickaxe. Occasionally, they’ll drop a Walnut, up to a total of five.
Dig in this corner for a Walnut. Journal Scrap #4 will show you a spot north of Birdie’s hut to dig for a Walnut and a Quality Bobber. Journal Scrap #6 will lead you to a curved palm tree southeast of your farm, on the beach.
Harvesting crops at the island farm will reward you with Walnuts randomly, up to a total of five.
There’s a hidden path into the shipwreck on the left-hand side of it. Follow it inside for a Walnut bush.
Notice that whack-a-mole creature on the beach? Just cover three of its holes with machinery or furniture and hit it in the last hole. Alternatively, you can use an upgraded watering can to hit it from a distance.
There are a few dig spots for a Walnut each, bringing you six more: in a patch of longer grass in the Tiger Slime grove, inside the blue starfish triangle on the beach, inside the diamond of yellow and blue starfish by the tide pools, on the X marked in the sand near the tide pools, in the diamond of pebbles north of the farmhouse in the grass, and inside the diamond of sand indents near the tide pools by the ocean shore.
There are a few Walnut bushes to find, as well, for a total of eight Walnuts. They are in the following locations: west of the farm behind a palm tree, southeast of Qi’s room, north of Qi’s room along the water’s edge, in the Tiger Slime grove behind a Mahogany tree, to the left of the bridge behind the farmhouse, partially hidden behind the tree cover, east of the Tiger Slime grove around the cliff, on the cliff overlooking the farm (follow the left edge near the Parrot Express cart), and through the trees in the top right corner of grass behind the farmhouse (very, very hidden).
Slaying the Tiger Slimes can grant you a single Walnut at random.
Ginger Island East
Ginger Island East is the area through the upper-right entrance from the beach. It contains Leo’s hut, the Gem Bird shrine, and not much else. There are only 11 Walnuts in this area. Note: the bird inside Leo’s hut will give you hints to where other Walnuts are.
This is probably the first Walnut most people will find. It’s on an obvious bush on the path to Leo’s hut.
The three inside Leo’s hut can be struck with an axe for a single Walnut.
There’s an altar at the bottom of the stairs up to Leo’s hut. Place a banana here and a gorilla will come and give you three Walnuts.
Follow the path through the hidden entrance on the right-hand side to find the Gem Bird’s shrine. There’s an easily-missed Walnut bush hidden at the far south of this area.
The Gem Bird’s shrine is actually a puzzle. On rainy days, one of the Gem Birds will appear in either Island South, Island North, Island East, or Island West and drop a gem (either a Topaz, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, or Aquamarine). Unfortunately, you’ll need to remember where each bird was found because the solution is randomized by the Stardew Valley game files. Place the gem on the corresponding pedestal in the shrine. Once all four are placed correctly, you’ll be rewarded with five Walnuts.
Other
There are an additional six Walnuts that can be found that are not locked to a particular area.
A single Walnut will be obtained when you crack open a Golden Coconut for the first time, back at Clint’s in Stardew Valley.
Five Walnuts can be found by fishing anywhere on Ginger Island.
