Stardew Valley was recently updated to version 1.5, and it came with a massive amount of new content, including a new character named Leo. This young boy lives on Ginger Island — an expansive new area — with his parrot family. After gaining his trust, you can begin getting to know him and bring him some gifts like most other characters. If you’re looking to ensure that you give him things he likes, here’s a guide on what kind of gifts he prefers.

Loved Gifts

There is a short list of items that Leo loves, and a majority of them require access to Ginger Island.

The first is mangoes, which can be plucked from a mango tree. Mango tree saplings are found inside golden coconuts or from the Island Trader in exchange for 75 mussels, once the trader is unlocked. Leo also loves ostrich eggs, which can be found in a few ways in Stardew Valley, including from Journal Scrap #10 on Ginger Island or in the Volcano Dungeon as a random drop.

Poi is another favorite gift of Leo’s. This traditional dish is made from four Taro Roots, which are grown from Taro Tubers. You’ll get the recipe from Leo in the mail when your friendship level reaches three hearts. To get Taro Tubers, you’ll need to have access to Ginger Island. The final gift that Leo loves does not require access to the island to obtain: a duck feather. This item is dropped by ducks on your farm if they’re happy, fed, and you have a bit of luck. There are other ways to obtain them, but this is their main source.

Liked Gifts

Like most characters in the game, Leo has a list of gifts that he likes, but doesn’t love. These gifts will reward 45 points, where a loved gift rewards 80. However, these are much easier to obtain. Head to the beach to do some foraging, as Leo likes a few things that can be found here: Nautilus Shells, Rainbow Shells, and Sea Urchins. If it’s Summer, keep foraging, as those Spice Berries you find around Stardew Valley are also appreciated by this young boy.

Leo also appreciates some of the things you can find in the mines and Volcano Dungeon. Namely, he likes Dragon Teeth and Quartz. One final liked gift is Mango Sticky Rice. This dish is cooked by combining a mango, a coconut, and some rice. Leo will send you the recipe once you have seven friendship hearts with him.

Universal Gifts in Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley has a series of items that are universally-loved, or at least universally-liked. Leo also has a preference for many of these gifts, but with some exceptions. The universal loves include the Golden Pumpkin, Magic Rock Candy, pearls, Prismatic Shards, and rabbit’s feet.

As for universally-liked gifts, there are many that Leo likes but he doesn’t fully subscribe to the complete list. The universal likes typically include most artisan goods, most cooked dishes, most foraged minerals, most flowers, most fruits from trees, most gems, most veggies, life elixirs, and maple syrup.

Leo is in tune with most of these preferences, but doesn’t like any alcoholic beverages or cooking, with the exception of the aforementioned dishes that he likes or loves. He also has a neutral opinion (20 friendship points) toward bread, coffee, and fried eggs.
