One of Stardew Valley’s kindest and most helpful residents is the local fishing expert, Willy. This grizzled angler operates a fishing shop at the beach and provides you with your fishing rod, helping get you started from the earliest point possible. Later in the game, he’ll also bring you to Ginger Island, opening up a ton of new possibilities.
If you’re looking to repay the kindness of this helpful man, here are all the gifts Willy likes and loves.
Loves
Unsurprisingly, Willy loves fish. Specifically, he likes four species in particular: catfish, octopus, sea cucumber, and sturgeon. He has a neutral opinion toward most fish, but these ones he really loves.
That’s not all, though, as Willy also has other favorites. He will also respond very well to his other loved gifts: diamonds, iridium bars, mead, and pumpkins.
For any loved gift, Willy will respond with gratitude for a “great” gift. You’ll receive 80 friendship points toward your friend meter with him.
If you really want to gain his friendship, give him a gift on his birthday, which is Summer 24. Any gift given on birthdays in Stardew Valley will have 8x the effect.
Likes
In Stardew Valley, it can often be much more efficient (especially in the early days) to level up a friendship with people by giving them a gift they like but don’t love. This will net you 45 friendship points, and the gifts are often much easier to come by.
Willy’s loved gifts aren’t impossible to find, but if you really want to get on his good side and don’t have them, consider these “liked” gifts instead.

Willy likes most of the cooked dishes that involve fish, with some exceptions. His “liked” seafood meals include Baked Fish, Carp Surprise, Chowder, Crab Cakes, Crispy Bass, Fish Stew, Fish Taco, Fried Calamari, Fried Eel, Lobster Bisque, Salmon Dinner, Seafoam Pudding, and Trout Soup.
These aren’t the only gifts that Willy likes, though. He also likes gold bars and quartz. When you give him a liked gift, Willy will respond with, “This looks great. Thank you!”
Universal Gifts
Even though the Stardew Valley villagers are a diverse group of personalities with their own unique interests, some items are almost universally loved or almost universally liked. Willy subscribes to many of these universal interests, too.
The universal loves list includes the Golden Pumpkin, Magic Rock Candy, pearls, Prismatic Shards, and rabbit’s feet.
Universal likes are a much longer list but most notably include most flowers, most cooked items, most gems, and most artisan goods. Willy shares the feelings of most villagers for most universal likes but has some notable exceptions. He doesn’t like Life Elixir, and his opinions vary on cooked dishes widely.
