DC‘s Stargirl, since launching earlier this year, has been a pretty big success and has already been renewed for a second season. As development takes place, Deadline has now confirmed that the show has cast former Arrow star Nick Tarabay to play an important villain role. Jonathan Cake has also been cast to play another villain.
Tarabay is best known for his role in The Expanse and, to comic fans, playing Captain Boomerang in The CW’s Arrow. Cake has also had a hand in the DC universe by playing Blackbeard in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
So, who will both actors play in Stargirl season 2? Tarabay will portray Eclipso, a new villain who was teased in the final episode of Stargirl‘s debut season. Eclipso isn’t a new character, he’s been around in the comic book universe for many years. Introduced in 1963, Eclipso uses his powers to possess others and bring terror upon the world.
During New York Comic-Con (via Digital Spy), the show’s creator teased what it means to have a character like Eclipso join Stargirl season 2:
Jonathan Cake is poised to portray yet another villain, The Shade, who’s comic book roots stretch back even further than Eclipso. His first appearance can be traced back to 1942. The Shade is an immortal foe who specializes in darkness manipulation; being able to control the dark. Traditionally, he is not particularly known as a Stargirl foe and is better recognized as an enemy to The Flash.
Ysa Penarejo (Project Mc2) has also been cast in an undisclosed role. When we learn more, we’ll be sure to let you know. Season one of Stargirl is currently available for streaming on Disney Plus.
