Last week, a comedy legend left us. Breaking the hearts of fans across the world, John Witherspoon passed at the age of 77. According to comicbook.com, the network which acted as one of Witherspoon’s primary platforms has released a statement about his life and death.

A Beautiful History

Witherspoon has contributed to a number of programs on Adult Swim over the years. Most notably, he portrayed Robert “Granddad,” Freeman on the hit show The Boondocks. In addition to this, John Witherspoon is credited on Adult Swim shows Black Jesus and Black Dynamite. The actor also appeared on the recent Chance the Rapper album The Big Day. Furthermore, Witherspoon leaves in his wake a long history of comedic roles in films, spanning decades.

Additionally, Witherspoon’s family has released a statement, part of which reads as follows:

Witherspoon is survived by his wife, Angela, his sons, JD and Alexander, and a large, loving extended family.

Fans and family the world over mourn this loss as the life of a legend is celebrated. Witherspoon leaves behind a pair of shoes too big for anyone to fill.
