Today, 50 new titles have passed through Steam Greenlight, Valve’s democratic approval system. To date, over 700 games have made their way into the program, with 200 of those having been released for purchase.
“While they were Greenlit today, these titles will be released independently in the weeks or months ahead, as they complete development and integrate any Steamworks features they are interested in utilizing,” the blog post reads.
An interesting standout from this batch, BeamNG.drive, is a sandbox driving game featuring a soft-body physics engine that simulates every component of a vehicle in real time. Needless to say, players won’t be very interested in obeying the rules of the road with this title.
Since its inception in August 2012, Steam Greenlight has ushered in some fantastic titles, including Project Zomboid, Deadly Premonition, The Stanley Parable and Papers, Please. Despite the popularity of the service, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell has hinted that it may be discontinued as the blocks between publishers and developers diminish.
