Since Windows 11 was released, we have received a lot of news that gamers are not yet ready to switch to the new operating system. According to Valve’s June report, Steam Hardware Survey, more than 20% of Steam users have switched to Windows 11. The most popular operating system is still Windows 10, with over 70% usage.
Windows 11 Catches On With Steam Users
Valve’s most recent Steam survey provides information about gamers’ preferences for hardware and software. The study indicates that Windows 11 has surpassed the 20% mark and has a market share of 21.23%. The information provided by Steam is comparable to a recent analysis from AdDuplex, which said that Windows 11 has a 23% market share. Over the past month, the percentage of Steam users using Windows 11 increased by 1.6%, while Windows 10 decreased by about 2.6%. And the survey has shown that just over 3% of gamers still use Windows 7.
Windows 11 was first released in October 2021. As we said before, Microsoft’s new OS couldn’t have a good start and didn’t gain great popularity. However, now we see that Windows 11 is increasing its users very quickly, at least among gamers.
On the other hand, the latest survey also revealed the hardware preferences of Steam users. Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 remains the most popular GPU among Steam users. And the GeForce GTX 1650 is in second place, and the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is in third place. As for AMD, we see its integrated GPUs reaching 1.54% of Steam users. AMD RX 580, considered one of the best price/performance GPU years ago, was the only discrete AMD graphics card on the list with a 1.28% usage rate. Also, we expect to see Intel’s first graphics card, the Arc series, on Steam soon.
And finally, the most popular amount of RAM remains 16 GB (-0.59%), but more gamers are moving to smaller amounts, especially 8 GB. Among VR headsets, Oculus Quest 2 dominates the market with 49.02% (+1.03%).
