Earlier this week Batwoman‘s Ruby Rose announced that she was no longer going to play the show’s main character. Since then, fans have been left to wonder who is going to become the protagonist of the popular CW series. On Wednesday, Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Stephanie Beatriz announced that she would be interested in the role.

It is an interesting choice, but one that Beatriz is well-suited to play. Her character, Rosa in the popular series, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, is an openly bisexual, tough, funny, and a mysterious detective in Brooklyn. Given that Beatriz herself is bisexual and a prominent LGBTQ rights activist, her interest in playing a role where the character is openly gay is not surprising. Kate Kane who is the protagonist of the series Batwoman struggles with the homophobia of both her potential allies and her enemies throughout the series.

Beatriz’s current role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine gives her plenty of preparation for the kind of physical stunts a show like Batwoman requires. Rosa, is well known for her physical combat abilities and athleticism. She has also struggled with her sexual identity in the show which would make Beatriz an obvious choice for someone to portray a role like Kate Kane.

The real issue would be whether or not Beatriz could play her really popular role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine as well as Batwoman. Given that Batwoman is slated to come back in early 2021. It is not clear if Beatriz’s schedule will allow for a secondary show. If not, it would be very sad to see her leave Brooklyn Nine-Nine given the popularity of her character. However, it would be amazing to see her play a very popular role that addresses issues very close to her heart. We eagerly await further details regarding the casting of CW’s Batwoman.
