Universal Studios announced that the newly adapted film, Stephen King’s Firestarter, will open simultaneously in theaters and on their streaming service of Peacock on May 13, 2022.

Firestarter is based on the novel by the iconic horror writer of all time, Stephen King. The novel was released in 1980 and is about “Charlie McGee inherited pyrokinetic powers from her parents, who had been given a low-grade hallucinogen called “Lot Six” while at college. Now the government is trying to capture young Charlie and harness her powerful fire-starting skills as a weapon”. Like most of Stephen King’s books, it was an instant hit. The novel went on to be adapted for film in 1984. The film starred child star actor, at the time, Drew Barrymore. It also featured Martin Sheen, David Keith, Freddie Jones, and Heather Locklear.

The latest adaption of Firestarter will be directed by Keith Thomas and will be produced by Jason Blum. Blumhouse takes on another classic film and there’s no doubt, they’ll deliver again. Blumhouse is famous for the Paranormal Activity franchise, as well as The Conjuring, and the newest franchise, Halloween. The studio has been known for reviving cult classics like The Craft, Fantasy Island, and the studio is in development on making the iconic film, The Exorcist. The film is set to be released sometime in 2023 and will be directed by David Gordan Green, who famously revived the Halloween franchise with the latest two movies.

Firestarter will star Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the little girl with pyrokinetic powers. The film will also star Zac Efron and Sydney Lemmon as the parents. The film will also feature Gloria Reuben, Michael Greyeyes, and Tina Jung. Judging from the trailer released today, this movie looks like an intensely thrilling ride.
