In sad news, Steve Bing, American movie producer and philanthropist, has died at the age of 55.
Reported by TMZ and Deadline, the police and the coroner’s office claimed that Bing committed suicide by jumping off the roof of a Central City apartment building in Los Angeles on Monday.
Stephen Leo Bing was known for producing and financing a number of well-known, financially successful movie blockbusters including Beowulf (2007), The Polar Express (2004), and the Rolling Stones concert film Shine A Light (2004). He also ventured in the world of screenwriting, co-penning the story and script for 2003’s animated comedy Kangaroo Jack. Bing was the mind and money behind the Shangri-La Entertainment Company, which focused on construction, property, entertainment, and music projects.
Bing has also donated his money towards a number of causes. A noted Democrat, the California-born Philanthropist had donated to a number of Democratic National Committee candidates over the years including Al Gore, Hilary Clinton, and John Kerry. He donated $1 million to the Democratic National Committee in 2000 and has donated $10 million to the Clinton Foundation, being a good friend of former president Bill Clinton. In 2009, when Clinton took a flight to North Korea to accompany two imprisoned American reporters, King covered the cost of the flight. Steve Bing also donated $9.5 million during the 2006 election cycle in support of Proposition 87, a California initiative that sought to raise $4 billion in oil production taxes to help develop alternative fuels.
Steve Bing is survived by his ex-partners British model Elizabeth Hurley and tennis player Lisa Bonder and two children, one from each relationship. Damian, Hurley, the son conceived with Elizabeth Hurley, is now eighteen years old and previously starred in the 2016 E! series The Royals. In 2018, he signed with modeling agency Tess Management. Kira Kerkorian Bonder, the child he had with Lisa Bonder, is a US university student.
