The highly anticipated return of the Cartoon Network series Steven Universe through the TV event Steven Universe The Movie has been given a very revealing and detailed new trailer, as well as a release date of September 2nd.
Steven Universe The Movie will take place two years after the conclusion of season 5, and will showcase a new look for Steven, a brand-new villain who has yet to be named, as well as major events that occurred in the time between the past and present. Only so much can be assumed from the trailer, though it has revealed plenty of details that many fans should be very excited about.
It appears as though serious developments in have occurred in the time between the last season and the film, as Steven has been assisting Gem-controlled planets in being liberated from the now overthrown regime of the Diamond Authority, and some Gems have begun integrating into society on Earth just outside of Beach City. A new villain has come to uproot everything that Steven and the Crystal Gems have worked for and has a plan that will eliminate all organic life on Earth in less than two days. Steven and his friends must now do whatever they can to fight off this mysterious new Gem enemy, and protect the happily ever after that they had made for themselves together.
As has been discussed before, Steven Universe The Movie will also have a more musical focus than the show already has and will feature various artists such as Chance the Rapper, Mike Kroll, and Julian “Zorsy” Sanchez to name a few. The trailer even features one of the new songs made for the film, headed by Estelle as Garnet, which will likely have a great significance in the final film.
It has been confirmed several times that the film will NOT be the end of the series, but rather a large stepping stone in a new direction for the story after the conclusion of Season 5 and the series major plotline up until that point. Steven Universe The Movie will premiere on Cartoon Network on September 2nd.
