The Evil Dead in Theaters

Fathom Events described the event in a press release, stating, “The ultimate experience in grueling terror! Grindhouse Releasing and Fathom Events celebrate the 40th anniversary of Sam Raimi’s horror classic THE EVIL DEAD with an exclusive nationwide screening introduced by star Bruce Campbell.” The Evil Dead will release in theaters all across the country, ensuring that viewers will be able to find it playing near them.

The ’81 classic follows Ash and his friends as they travel to a remote cabin in the woods. While there, they stumble upon the “book of the Dead”, with which they conjure spirits. One by one, characters become possessed as Ash must rise up and survive through the night. Filmed on a tiny budget, The Evil Dead was a cavalcade of creative gore effects and innovative cinematography. Though initially a flop. The Evil Dead became a sleeper hit, as word of mouth encouraged people to see it in theaters. The movie made Sam Raimi’s career, spawned two sequels, a spin-off tv series, a remake, and a video game. The Evil Dead 40th Anniversary is a reminder of how essential Raimi’s classic was to the independent film scene.
