On August 4, 2022, BBC confirmed Will Mellor as one of the participants in the 2022 series of  Strictly Come Dancing, making him the first cast member unveiled.

However, Will Mellor’s stint on the upcoming show may be short-lived, due to a health concern that could limit his potential. The star recently opened up about the health issue and his plans for pushing through on the show.

A Knee Injury Could Pose A Threat To Will Mellor On Strictly Come Dancing

Speaking with news outlets ahead of the show’s launch, Will Mellor disclosed he was battling a knee injury, which he feared could threaten his health when the reality competition show commences. According to him, the injury already acted up once while walking down the stairs. Yet, he knew that was nothing compared to having it “pop out” during a dance performance on live television.

Despite realizing the difficulty the injury may pose to his time on the show, Will Mellor remains adamant to complete his stint on Strictly Come Dancing. Explaining his decision, the star said:

Aside from his determination to challenge himself, the 40-year-old admitted his dad’s passing in 2020 also served as motivation. According to the Coronation Street star, he would have been too scared to take such a huge risk prior to his dad’s death.

However, the loss of his dad changed his mindset completely. It unraveled the adventurous side of him that was eager to “grab life” and live it to the fullest. Since then, he found himself saying yes to more activities, creating memories in the process.

Having committed himself to the upcoming 20th series of Strictly Come Dancing, Will Mellor knew there was no turning back. Other celebrities to look forward to on the show include singer Matt Goss, comedian Ellie Taylor, and DJ Tyler West. Several beloved figures would also return as pro dancers and judges on the show, giving viewers more reasons to anticipate.

The Strictly Come Dancing 2022 series would debut on Friday, September 23, 2022, after an initial postponement due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
