Super Mario 64 is one of those games that seems to transcend time. To this day, there are few 90s kids and adults alike that don’t have fond memories of their favorite plumber in 3D. Albeit small, there’s a consistent viewership on Twitch for the old school 1996 title. That’s impressive, but not nearly as much passion as YouTuber Kaze Emanuar and his creation of Super Mario 64 Land.

Nintendo Cracks Down on Mods

Kaze is known for being an absolute wizard when it comes to modding the 64 classic. He has recreated objects from the game Portal and put them in Super Mario 64. He’s also turned it into a multiplayer game (that mod has been shut down). Here we are though, in 2019. An age where Nintendo has cracked down heavily with mods of their titles and systems. In September, they filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the owner of RomUniverse. In late 2018, a similar situation with LoveROMS.com and LoveRETRO.co. A settlement was agreed to in that case, both of which are completely offline now. Despite all of the recent events, nothing has stopped Kaze from creating this highly ambitious mod.

Super Mario 64 Land Adds a Ton of Content

Kaze Emanuar isn’t selling anything but his mods are still around one of Nintendo’s biggest games ever. He has had some challenges in regards to legality with Nintendo in the past. In September 2017, Super Mario Online, a mod by Kaze, was shut down because of a DMCA complaint from Nintendo. All these speedbumps haven’t seemed to slow Kaze down though.

You can check Super Mario 64 Land out for yourself in the video above.

If you have any interest in this mod, better grab it while it’s hot. If this gets as much attention as his previous releases, Nintendo may do all it can to have this one shut down as well. For help on downloading, just refer to Kaze’s summary on the video.
