Super Mario Maker 2 will receive its final content update on April 22. The update adds the much-requested World Maker, Super Mario Bros. 2 Mushroom, and more.

The biggest update to the game is the new World Maker Mode. Now, you can group multiple courses to create a miniature Super Mario game of your own.

The World Maker mode includes a lot of small but fun details, including adding bonus stages and warp pipes to make it feel like a real Mario game. With up to eight worlds and 40 different courses, this could be a major boost to level creation.

Super Mario Maker 2 Adds Super Mario Bros. 2 Mushroom

The other major update is the Super Mario Bros. 2 Mushroom, which changes Mario and his abilities to match from Super Mario Bros. 2. For example, you can now pick up enemies and throw them.

When Super Mario Maker 2 was released, the addition of Super Mario 3D World as an extra game style had hopes of more game styles to be added later on. Unfortunately, Super Mario Bros. 2 will not get the full-fledged game style that players were hoping for.

Other additions include new items for Mario to wear, including the Frog Suit, Power Balloon, and the Super Acorn. For the Super Mario 3D World style, you can wear special boxes and masks to give you even more powers.

The seven Koopalings have returned and can be added to levels as special boss fights. Combined with the new Maker World, it fleshes out the possibilities in creating different worlds.

The Cursed Key and nightmare-fuel inducing Phanto have returned, who will hunt you down while you have the key.

While it is fantastic to see this significant update, it is disappointing that it will be the final one. Many have criticized Nintendo’s handling of the Super Mario Maker 2 updates, and it seems their solution is to cut and run.
