Super Mario Maker released back in mid September to rave reviews, and has continued to grow even more since launch with countless user-made levels. Now, the September NPDs have been released and Super Mario Maker had quite a debut month.

In the September NPDs, it was revealed that Super Mario Maker sold 445,000 units in the US between September 11 and October 3, which placed it at #6 overall on the September charts behind NBA 2K16, Madden NFL 16, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, FIFA 16, and Destiny: The Taken King.

Following the announcement of the monthly NPDs, Nintendo sent out their own press release that gave more up to date details. They revealed that from the period of September 11 to October 19, Super Mario Maker has now sold over 500,000 units in the US alone.

While this number may not seem like a big deal compared to other major releases on the other platforms, but this is very good for the Wii U. In fact, it led to a big increase from sales last year, up 110% to be exact.

Nintendo also spotlighted the 3DS, saying that year to date sales are up 25% on last year. They also said that Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer managed to sell 115,000 in just its first week, which is solid for a niche game like that.
