Super Mario Odyssey has been a big success in the speedrunning community since it was released two months ago.

The any percent category, which tasks the player with completing the game as quickly as possible, recently became the most-run speedrun category of all time. It is also the first time that any category has had over 1,000 people speedrunning the game at one time in Speedrun.com’s history.

The current world record for the any percent speedrun is one hour, five minutes and 14 seconds by nedeahS.

The community is working tirelessly to perfect the speedrun by discovering new tricks, skips, and glitches that can be used to shave precious seconds off of the already near-perfect run.

The game itself is currently the third most-popular speed game of all time with Super Mario 64 (1,782 players) and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1,308) ahead of Super Mario Odyssey.

Considering the game has only been out for a short space of time, however, it won’t be long now until Super Mario Odyssey becomes the biggest speedrun of all time if players continue to learn to speedrun the game.
