The long awaited level editor for Super Meat Boy has finally arrived on Steam.  The level editor gives you all the tools to create anything present in the game, barring a few exceptions like Warp Zones and Bosses.  You can choose from any of the game’s long list of characters, creating chapters to your liking complete with your very own music.  You’ll then be able to share them with the Super Meat Boy community by uploading your creation to Super Meat World.  Simliar to Little Big Planet, there’s also a recommended section where the best user created content will be featured.

“We always wanted to release a basic level editor, but the idea started to balloon when we decided to buy servers and program a fully automated level portal (Super Meat World) to support these levels as a bonus chapter for the PC version,” said Team Meat’s Edmund McMillen. “We will be doing one more update to SMW next week adding a few missing features and fixing up a couple editor bugs.”

If you were wondering what Team Meat will be up to, it looks like they’re moving on to their next masterpiece.

“After that we will be closing the book on the PC version, porting SMB to Mac and swiftly moving on to game #2 (because we cant seem to stay happy without working on something constantly). Its been surreal everyone! thanks for all of the solid support and love, its time to hand the reigns to the SMB community and retire.”

The development duo also revealed that “There won’t ever be a Super Meat Boy 2″…shucks.  I guess I’ll only have Super Meat Boy to reminisce about the day that my hand fell off.
