Porting many indie games to physical releases and other exclusive special editions, Super Rare Games is releasing a new kind of limited-time title. Following in the footsteps of demo discs, Super Rare Games is experimenting with releasing indie game cassettes. Revealed on their website, the Super Rare Mixtape Vol. 1 features over 30 indie games with only 1000 USB tapes ever being created.

What Games are Included On the Tape?

While the limited quantities are surely causing some wariness, the quality is sure to be top-notch. With a full list of titles on their website, the genres included are sure to please gamers of all kinds. Releasing an indie game cassette is intriguing, presenting many future possibilities. Ranging from text-based games like Emily is Away to 3D adventures like Kiwi 64. There’s also a whole host of upcoming games in the form of playable demos like Skatebird, Conscript, and Pathogen-X. There’s certainly something on the Super Rare Mixtape to pique any PC gamer’s interest. Even if the platform might be its only limitation, the pure range of playability is commendable.

With Super Rare Games sampling the interest for a freeware-supported product like this, their intentions to make more are clear. The novel concept comes in a unique box with a manual dedicating one page per game. While the cassette will only be playable on PC, the custom launcher makes plug and play on all devices extremely simple. Set to begin preorders on August 19 at 1 PM EST.
