Just like all the previous games, this 30th-anniversary celebratory crossover title will feature robots (or mechas) from a variety of anime. A few that have been confirmed via the trailer are Mazinger Z: Infinity, Code Geass, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and The King of Braves GaoGaiGar Final. Other than that, the reveal trailer has not shown much info about the plot or gameplay improvements/changes.

In case you have not heard about the series before, Super Robot Wars is a turn-based strategy series where a bunch of characters and giant robots from a bunch of mecha anime — both the good and bad guys — cross over into one world. Occasionally a few outliers like Star Blazers‘s Yamato and Captain Harlock‘s Arcadia spaceships show up as well. As one can expect, the biggest draw of the series is seeing characters from different worlds interact with each other. Like how Shinji can actually become an emotionally healthy person thanks to building a proper relationship with hot-blooded mecha pilots. Or you know, simply watching Scopedog and Getter Robo beat the lights out of Anti-Spiral, or something.

Funny enough, all Bandai Namco had to show on its scheduled 1-hour E3 presentation was only a short interview of the new entry to its The Dark Pictures horror series, House of Ashes. The Super Robot Wars 30 announcement itself was tucked away in the Japanese version of the E3 2021 Nintendo Direct stream. Stay tuned to The Nerd Stash in case Bandai Namco has finally talked about the game’s western launch window.
