In series creator Masahiro Sakurai’s latest Miiverse update on the game it is revealed that Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS will have a stage based around the quirky 3DS title Tomodachi Life. The game, which garnered some controversy over its banning of same-sex relationships, allows Mii characters to interact together, forming relationships and living their lives.
Saurai explained a little bit about the level saying “you might run into a Mii living in the room! The Mii characters are taken from the data in your 3DS system, so you could find your friends living in the apartments.” So it seems like Mii characters stored on your 3DS might be used in Super Smash Bros. as part of the background of the level. Whether they end up interacting with players, or are just decorations will have to be seen later. The screenshot provided by Sakurai can be seen below.
Two versions of Super Smash Bros. are coming to Nintendo systems later this year, one for 3DS and one for Wii U. While the characters will all be the same across both versions, levels will not. This level will only appear on the 3DS version since it is based on another 3DS game. Likewise, certain other stages based on past handheld titles like The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks will only be available on Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. The Wii U version will get its own unique stages based around home console games.
Nintendo is currently showing off Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS at San Diego Comic-Con. They will also be hosting the first ever tournament for the handheld entry in the series at the convention. The tournament starts tomorrow and will be streamed on Nintendo’s Twitch channel.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is set to release on October 3rd exclusively on 3DS. Its counterpart, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, is scheduled for later this holiday season.
